LAtely, I have been repeating the last few levels for practice. I bought levels 1 - 5 and have been through all of them. I had never taken a class in Spanish before and knew nothing. I have been using Rosetta Stone for learning Latin American Spanish. Since I have been invited to "give insight", I will share my experience with Rosetta Stone. I don't care for it, but I would recommend it to people if I felt RS fit their situation. Have tried using it for a number of languages. However, If anyone thinks that they can reach fluency with RS, or ANY singular source for that matter, then they are sadly mistaken. If they are learning, then let them learn. I really do not see the problem with people using it. Everyone learns differently, and what is absolute crap to one person could be the best thing since sliced bread to another. In fact, saying that ANYTHING is the worst product ever is kind of a strange statement as far as language learning materials go. Is it "One of the worst products ever"? Not by a long shot. Is it worth the price? To someone it may be.
Eventually they will have to, if they want to move their language experience past RS, but this gives them a big enough push to take the scary out of opening that grammar text. People who just cannot learn from a textbook to save their lives.
I think that is probably the target group for RS (that I see). Fun activities, engaging software, and quick satisfaction in being able to see your progress is a huge advantage for someone that just cannot get into learning a language via vocabulary lists, translating text, and listening to audio over and over again. To start out with, it is an easy and fun way to get into a language, especially if you are not the type to slave over a book for hours a day. Most seasoned language learners will pass over it in favor of materials more suited to their level, but RS has a lot of advantages for new or stubborn students.

It will only recognize a hard American accent of the language you are learning. This is one thing they love to market and well it is not true.

I will be the first to admit their marketing is the best in the business, but they offer one of the worst products ever. I know people are fooled by Rosetta Stone's marketing ploys.
